How does the performer embody a characters feelings/emotions and how they express that to the audience?
Glee Version
The performer embodies the character by being fast. When he is singing he is singing it really loud and in the video he is trying to perform and impress judges in an audition. This shows that his power in his voice and him over doing the song was to impress, and at the very end he hits that high notes and goes over the top with it. His movements are also really fast ad active. He sings in his chest voice which makes his performance strong and powerful.
West Side Story version
In the west side story version you can see that the performer embodies the character by making the song actually look thoughtful his emotions and feelings. Although he performs his solo quite exiting. He also changes the performance and makes it slow but makes it so there are lots of change of dynamics throughout the piece. He doesn't physically actively move around and travel a lot but instead he makes significant small movements. For example he uses his arms and hands more to demonstrate his emotion. At the end of the piece he finishes the song off gently with head voice and full emotions and in feelings.
